Performance Review for Outsourced Frontend Engineer
When I joined a startup as a CTO, I needed to conduct performance reviews, especially for outsourcing engineers and contractors from a recruiting site.
One engineer was hired by the former CTO and was assigned to work on an admin dashboard alone. While the admin dashboard is essential for internal use, it may not always require a sophisticated UI or better UX. I had a conversation with her about her tasks, what she had worked on, and what she was capable of. Surprisingly, she was hired as a frontend engineer, and she clarified that she is not a backend engineer or a full-stack developer.
Initially, I wanted to retain her contract, but there were numerous issues that needed fixing, especially on the backend side and there is no backend engineer to support her. Unfortunately, I had to let her go and hoped she would find a better job soon.
A mere week later, my curious eyes couldn’t resist checking her status, and what do you know—a surprising twist! Her company had transformed her into a senior full-stack engineer with 6 years of experience!
Now, I find myself pondering, “Who is this sorceress of reinvention? I want to hire this one”. 🧙♀️✨🔮
