Co Founder Finding Methods for Aspiring Founders

If you are an aspiring founder and you don’t have a co-founder, one of the approaches you can think about is joining a startup program to provide opportunities to mingle with cohort members through the programs. You can meet lots of like-minded people within a short period of time, and typically, these programs will guide you on how to choose your ideal co-founders through some mini-series of the program. Within a month or two, you could determine if your team is a good fit or not. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

One problem I notice here is the limited pool of cohort members; typically, they number only between 30 and 100, so it’s almost like trying to find your soulmate in a local pub or club. Everyone accepts one term: you are open to engage with anyone for a one-night stand, and the next day, you have to decide whether to get married or not. ๐Ÿ˜…

It sounds extremely weird, but somehow that is what we are doing in the startup program. Sometimes you already know that it is not working after a few days, but the other team has already moved forward, so you may have no chance to join another team. Probably, you need to join another batch or apply to another program. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

In my personality, I am a bit of a slow starter and approach things in a cautious manner, so it is not ideal for me. ๐Ÿข

From YC’s guide, they recommend the following: “The only way to really know if you work well with someone is to actually work with them for a while. We call this a ‘work trial.’ You should do a work trial before committing to working with someone long-term.” ๐Ÿค

It is almost the same as what the startup program provides, but one big difference is that you need to find your co-founders first, whatever that may be, and try working together before forming a company or a team. Of course, the timeline is purely up to you. โŒ›Whether you choose an intensive program or search with luck, at least you need to know what kind of person you are.

The worst choice I can think of is wanting to start a company with your idea, finding a mate during the program, and working together even when you already know your mates are not the right fit. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

I did that before, so you don’t need to do the same. ๐Ÿ˜„ It was not that fun.
